Proper Horticultural Practices

Making your lawn a success requires commitment. The following are some horticultural practices the homeowner can employ to ensure a lush and healthy lawn, year after year.

  • Thin or bare areas of the lawn should be reseeded in the spring or fall to help thicken the turf. This will help to reduce the number of weeds and insect infestations.
  • Lawns need at least 1½" - 2" of water each and every week to stay healthy.  And make sure you provide a good soaking to ensure water reached the grass roots.
  • Water in the early morning hours before the heat of the day which can result in evaporation loss. And watering in the evening with chlorinated water can weaken the grass leaving it susceptible to various diseases.
  • Cut the grass at a height of no less than 2 ½” -3 ½”.
  • Remove no more than 1/3 of the grass blade in any one cutting.
  • Make sure mower blades are sharpened each and every year to ensure a clean cut.
